What it is
HRV is the variation in time between heartbeats, reported by most wearables. It is used as a rough proxy for recovery and autonomic balance.
What is currently understood
Population research links higher HRV to better cardiovascular health, and within-person trends can reflect training stress, illness and poor sleep. As a personal trend metric it is genuinely useful.
What is not established
Single-day HRV readings are noisy and are routinely over-interpreted. Devices measure it differently, and there is no universal good number.
Regulatory status
Not applicable — this is a lifestyle and behaviour topic, not a regulated product.
How it comes up in coaching
We read HRV as a trend alongside sleep and training load, never as a daily verdict. Coaching teaches you which movements in your own data are signal and which are noise. Nothing here is a recommendation.
